El clasico final in Berlin?… to be or not to be?…

2209313_w2

How are the chances of having “El Clasico” in the biggest scenario of football clubs, the UEFA Champions league?

We are about to find out, this week we will know which teams will meet in Berlin for the final. The last time I posted about El Clasico, it was the one Barcelona and Real Madrid played in La Liga, it finished with a victory from Barcelona. Although a mix feelings from Real Madrid’s fans, for some the team played with heart, for others a lost is a lost.

The Champions League sometimes can be predictable and sometimes it can surprise us, at this stage the four teams playing the semifinals are European football powerhouses, all have won the title before, some are more favorites than others but any of the four could reach the final.

Real-Madrid-vs-Barcelona

For the past few CL seasons the idea of a Real Madrid- Barcelona final had been in the air, both teams reached semifinals in the last few season teasing all fans with a possible El Clasico final, but it did not happen, either both were eliminated, or only one of them advanced to the final like what happened with Real Madrid last season.

As soon as both were placed in different sides and facing different rivals this season some fans and the media started to dream with a final between these two arch rivals, let’s be honest that has a possibility of being one of those great and historic finals, but one thing is to dream about it and another one is the reality of both clubs.

2015-05-06t212850z_73949330_mt1aci13727493_rtrmadp_3_football

So far Barcelona has half of the ticket to Berlin and most probably is about to get the other half in the next two hours, if Bayern can not pull out a comeback. RealMadrid has a complicated second leg on Wednesday after their 1-2 result in Italy vs Juventus. It’s interesting how many people thought that Real Madrid probably had better chances because Juventus were considered among the four semifinalist the one with fewer options, but at the end football can change from one game to another.

barcelona

Just look at how things have shifted for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, the first one started the season with many doubts and in the middle of a weird relationship between Luis Enrique and Messi, but apparently all that is water under the bridge now, and they are having an incredible end of the season, the players form and their game have set them a part from the rest, they are probably the favorite, the MSN (Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar) are having the best end of the season. That is what could be called, good timing.

Barcelona- Bayern Munich in the papers was probably the match that everyone expected to be very  close and difficult, and it was for most part of the game during the first leg, but in three minutes Messi changed it all, now Bayern needs maybe not a miracle but close to that.

1408951526_extras_noticia_foton_7_1

On the contrary Real Madrid went from the best team at the beginning of the season to be in the edge of a non title season. Iker Casillas is getting some heat from some fans, as well as the BBC (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano) not much love for them, specially for Bale and a little bit for Ronaldo, and since Benzema is injured, he is kind of on the safe. At this point, it all depends of what happens this Wednesday, it seems that they have said goodbye to La Liga after Saturday’s result, and now their only option is the Champions League, but Juventus is a tough rival, specially now that they have the result on their favor, they can defend pretty well that’s the Italian style.

Real Madrid seems to be under trouble waters, facing critics after the latest results, their timing couldn’t be worst, important players injured and others criticized by their fans.

11219063_10150842207634953_9017488313621125306_n

Ancelotti needs to come up with a lineup that would cover the injury problems and the players need to have a good game, one of those magical Champions League nights at the Bernabeu, otherwise the dream of the eleventh (Undecima) will banish pretty fast and tougher times will come. Real Madrid is a club where fans expect victory all the time, that is the way it is. They either make it happen in the Champions League or they are heading to a very long and uncomfortable summer.

What is for sure is that we will be watching, many are praying to the Football gods to have that dream “El Clasico” final but for now let’s enjoy the excitement, nerves and nail biting that are Champions League Semifinals!!

Football Sunday!! #ElClasico … y nada mas!!

 image (1)

In a few hours the match of matches will kick-off, “El Clasico” is for many the biggest football soccer match around the world – taking out World Cup matches – and is consider the biggest for many reason, the rivalry that goes way back in history including some political issues, the money each team invest in their players, the titles both have won and aspire to win, among other things, but that is not what this match is all about today, is about two of the biggest clubs in Spain with fan all over the world. Even in the most remote places football fans know about “El Clasico” and people wait for this match with excitement.

This year is a tale of one league with two different halves, is interesting to see how things change in a couple of months. The first half of La Liga, Real Madrid was almost unstoppable, they closed 2014 with incredible numbers and on a wining streak, Ronaldo was probably at his best form he was scoring many goals, everything was kind of perfect for them, but the second half of the season is not going according to their script, they are probably in the middle of a crisis stage, a few loses that were not only unexpected but somehow humiliating, including that shocking  second leg match in Champions League vs Schalke 04, were they were close to be eliminated.

image

On the contrary Barcelona went from being a club in crisis during the first half of this season to be a club with a chance to win it all. If we take into consideration the whole Messi vs Luis Enrique drama; do they love each other or not?, that was the question and probably still is sometimes, things didn’t look so favorable for Barça. The turned around came, after  Messi missed a training session that generated many comments but was the key point in the team relationship, a conversation and a commitment to work for the team from all parts, and Messi has responded in the pitch, he is having an incredible second half scoring goals but also influencing Barcelona’s game, he has not only surpass Cristiano Ronaldo in the goal scoring race -30 for CR7 and 32 for Messi- but also he has assist many times his teammates, changing the face of Barcelona. One of the best news for their fans is that in some of the latest matches they have been able to see a glance of that style of game that was so characteristic of their team and was so loved and admired by others.

All build up aside history has told us that no matter how Barcelona or Real Madrid conditions are previous to a Clasico, this matches are a different story, we have seen how sometimes the one that get to this match stronger had ended up looking not so good to put it in a way. The only thing that we know for sure is that this match is not a normal regular La Liga match, is “El Clasico” and just by that, everything or anything can happen. What we all want is a fun and entertaining match, yes history also has taught us that sometimes the expectation is higher than what we see on the pitch, but we can only hope that today is going to be a Clasico to remember.

CAuJZ5gWsAAPgLv

This might be the match that defines the title race and it could be, there is just one point of difference between both teams and 10 matches to go, but we have also learned that football sometimes gives you many surprises. Do I think one of them will win La Liga, yes I do, I find it hard for the ones coming behind to catch them at the top, but I have seen many end of the season throughout the years so whoever or whichever wins today probably will gain confident to face the end of the season, but we’ll see…

Let’s enjoy and hope that it would be a fun match to watch! Let me know who do you think will win this Clasico, Real Madrid or Barcelona? you can leave a comment here or on my twitter @MonikJHerrera. Probably I will be tweeting during the game, one of my favorite things to do. Ha!

Raul

I’m not sharing here stats because you probably have seen them all this week, but I can share two of the moments people remember the most, one was Raul silencing the Camp Nou after scoring goal that tied the match 2-2, that was one of those draw that felt like a victory. The other one is Barcelona wining 5-0, that was painful for all Madridistas but this are two of the many iconic moments El Clasico always leave us.

Thank for reading and let’s see which trident will make the difference, the BBC: Bale, Benzema and Cristiano. Or the MSN: Messi, Suarez and Neymar?

Ballon d’Or!… The award season is ON… prepare the campaigns?…

1804805_full-lnd

We are at the end of the year, the award season is approaching. FIFA just announced their nominations for the prestigious, controversial  at times and very famous Ballon d’Or award.

We all thought this year everything was going to go smoothly with the nominees, well not so fast, things just got a lot interesting to put it in a way and a lot more controversial-ish.

The Nominees for the Best Player of the year are;

B3ziHxfCIAEE5D6

As of a few weeks ago, no one would have doubted that Cristiano Ronaldo was the favorite to win his second Ballon d’or, players and media were talking about his incredible year,  that despite his awful World Cup, he won titles with Real Madrid and broke some records in the process.

Everyone has talked about it, but some opinions have generated more headlines than others;

First Xabi Alonso and his comments about Manuel Neuer and later the reports of his apology for any offense that Ronaldo might have taken over his comments.

Most recently Michel Platini, president of the UEFA, who said that the winner should be “a world champion” and not Ronaldo. Words that not only stir the pot but also generated a response from Real Madrid, the team issued a statement in which they outline his impartiality and reminded him that “the Ballon d’Or  is an individual rather than collective prize.”  – Award drama…

benedict-cumberbatch0826

Now everyone is talking, from ex- players like Thomas Muller, Lotthar Matthaus to current players like Buffon, Pique, Ramos and the list goes on and on and the opinions varies; who deserve it?, if the World Cup should matter more than club achievements, goals records vs season performances, even their marketing powers or sponsorship influences are part of the conversation.

We haven’t mention Messi, who broke two historic records in less than two weeks and suddenly he is back in the race, he was a world cup finalist with Argentina, but aside from that his year hasn’t been that impressive, at least not for some of the media and football fans, and at times he wasn’t even consider as a possible winner, now he is in the race talk, although the voting process was closed before he broke the records, this just has added more to the drama!

B3ziHuiCUAA2ZlP

Coach of the Year is another big award that have also created controversy in the past, this year at least most agree with the final three nominees. All have made enough the past year and deserve the award but only one will get it, who?… is yet to be seen, for many the race is between Diego Simeone and Carlo Ancelotti.

B3ziH4CCQAAnUzi

The Puska award should be a fun one, James goal was incredible but Van Persie’s was very impressive too, let’s not forget all the fun we had with the memes and it also created a new verb; Vanpersing!!

What is for sure is that we will have to wait to see how the Ballon d’Or drama will unfold, people will keep talking, speculating and most will keep campaigning for their players, for some this should be avoided but that also has become part of the award itself.

The voting process for the 2014 Ballon d’Or ended on Nov. 21st, 2014, with coaches and captains from all FIFA member associations, as well as some media representatives, choosing their three favorites.

Thanks for reading and stopping by!!! Who do you think should win the Ballon d’Or for player of the year?… Which goal was the best one?…. Feel free to share your opinion, you can leave a comment here or on  my twitter @MonikJHerrera.

I leave you with a few but fun vanpersing pictures.

Expectations, Curiosities, Handshakes, Dj’s and Blankets… It’s all about Football!

Hello !

The weekend is here, I was waiting for it so bad!…  It’s going to be a busy weekend, most European leagues are back after the International break, so the local battles are back too, lots of games and points to fight or defend and for some records to break. It should be interesting and hopefully fun!

Before submerge into the deep waters of the European league – ohh the ocean, with this cold weather I really miss you- but that’s not the point, back to submerge into the deep waters of every league lets look at some curious, funny and sometimes weird images and moments that this International break left us;

The Messi- Ronaldo show…

B2v6mKrIgAAAp3U

Let’s start with the highly anticipated friendly between Argentina and Portugal  at Old Trafford, which for everyone it was a Messi vs Crisstiano Ronaldo match, everyone expected them to play at their best, to challenge each other and to try to prove who is the best of the World… They only played one half and for many they weren’t  that impressive, it was one of those “expectations were higher than reality” kind of moment.

B2v1sBsIMAIT5jz B2vqJvLIEAAucGh

Anyhow what was interesting and funny was to see the incredible attention to every detail, move  or interaction both player had before, during and after the match :0, pictures, photos or analysis of how they look at each others, how strong was the handshake, who smile more, and many more things of that nature, it was just crazy but so enjoyable!!

B2wiNjzCQAAzDmk B2v8pNEIAAENcT1cristiano-ronaldo-lionel-messi-argentina-portugal-friendly-match-old-trafford-18112014_op592jdxpzna16es8uhvtvv0p

And this story is to be continued…. 😉

The name game, Casillas or Casilla??

I know this is silly but it’s funny too, if for some reason during the match between Spain and Germany you missed the moment when Iker Casillas was substituted by Kiko Casilla you probably would have thought at some point, wait, what happened?, did the commentators are missing the “s” in Iker’s last name, but then you would have look at the TV and at Spain’s goalkeeper and think he doesn’t look like Casillas at all, unless you are familiar with La Liga which most of you probably are, but for the ones that are not, know that there is an Iker Casillas and a Kiko Casilla (no “s” at the end) and both are goalkeepers. Haa!! It can be confusing at times… Or maybe just anecdotic!

B2wUPapCUAAmDK7

The weird note…

Goes to Xabi Alonso and his comments about Neuer being the best goalkeeper by far that he has ever played with,  emphasis in the “by far”, and how he deserves the Ballon d’or because he won the World Cup with Germany and the whole he is the best goalkeeper, comments that have created a big fuss because he just left Real Madrid and the comments are considered for some a direct attack o lack of support for Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo, of course you can support your new teammate but for many these comments are a little bit out of time or place, but hey he is free to express his opinion I guess, but oh boy he really stir the waters up!

B3AgxjnIQAAiowo B23wQnpCUAEd9Hk

The sad news;

There are many player that get injure during the International break when playing with their national team, so we wish them all a speedy recovery, specially to Luka Modric, he will be out around three-months according to the latest report. Get well soon Luka!

B2rcjTOCIAACCxK

The introduction;

Let me introduce you to the Euro 2016 “Mascot”

Let’s conclude in our side of the pond;

Hard to understand if Mexico players  were getting ready to play or to have a pajama party! haha… They were trying to stay warm in this cold weathers! I like that they are kind of coordinated, and so into plaid! Fashion alert!!

B21GWfuCYAAOzSC

The USA probably needed some blankets after their lost 1-4 vs Ireland, and most probably in need of a serious pajama party after picking the ball up from their goal fourth times! 😦 Ouch!

B2xVj_qCEAEriPX

Let’s closed it with a famous DJ!! David Guetta wearing the Colombia national team jersey, a gift from James with an Instagram messages included!

B2w9Ye3CEAEb4Zl

I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away…

I bet you started to sing… I did! 🙂

By the way if you are planning to watch the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the Formula 1 season and the battle for the championship between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg enjoy and I’ll probably be tweeting  during the race, I’ve been following F1 for some years now, but this season I’ve been so involved, that I am nervous  to know who will be the champion :O and I love it!!

B2-vItKIQAAM5fh

Thank you for reading and stopping by, feel free to leave any comment. What do you think about the whole Xabi Alonso comments situation? or Who is the best Messi or CR7? Ha… Also we can talk on twitter, you can fin me @MonikJHerrera

Have a great weekend!!

From the dream to the Reality of LA DECIMA!

   Hello hello!

FIFA-World-Cup-2014-Stadium-Wallpapers1

The day has arrived!! Wohoooo…. Yes you know what I am talking about, The World Cup,  just the freaking best tournament of the whole world!!

As you can see or read I am more than happy, thrill, excited… I can go on with all the emotions that every human being that love this sport is feeling at this moments. It’s a matter of hours and then Brazil will kick off!

But before getting into the most amazing tournament, I feel I have to close some open topics in this blog. First I am the worst blogger in the world (probably… I still love myself hehe) I’ve been absent from the blogosphere for a long time, I didn’t realize how long I haven’t written in my blogs until a couple of weeks ago, times flies people, specially when you are facing some challenges and some re-organization in your life… hand up that’s me.

I have so many ideas and new projects but before come up with those I went thru  sickness back to health and  personal stuff that needed my attention and also distracted me for blogging… I felt the need to let you  know why this long absent.

Anyway back to what is important in this world; “Futbol” “Fpotball” ” Soccer”

Let’s start!

Pictures speak louder than words… or something like that haha

The picture below was posted on Iker Casillas’s official Facebook  on April 30, 2013, it represented the sentiment of that day, Real Madrid was left out of the biggest scenario at a Club level, they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in Semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.

923418_585491824814380_539215013_n

The tears from Iker Casillas and Ramos from that day were of sadness and disappointment.  But then just a season later on May 24th 2014 ohh boy how things changed, in the pictures below the tears were of relief at first and then total happiness!!

Iphone 349 10413047_520620381393410_901776948_n

Totally understandable after  the most crazy if not the craziest game in terms of emotions… The nerves were at the highest level,  Atletico de Madrid were wining the match  up until the 90 minute, even the players on the bench or at the stands were getting ready to celebrate, then  the referee added five more minute of stoppage time, which for a lot of people was too much,  for others was appropriated, but controversy aside, back into the game at the 2:50-3:00 minute mark the miracle for Real Madrid happened in the name or more to say in the head of Sergio Ramos, with an incredible header goal that brought Real Madrid back to life and allowed the game to go on extra time…

10398048_10150599378959953_3564551022837958320_n 10390439_10150599379474953_7967360436047223026_n10390247_10150599379454953_3987607742758693575_n

Half of the stadium went crazy, it was insane for Real Madrid fans who thought that La Decima was slipping away, but Ramos brought back  the most amazing feeling for a football (soccer) fan, insanely special happiness, they were alive again and they had 30 minutes to change the course of the match…

In the other side for Atletico was the worst that could happened to them, they were almost lifting the Cup and suddenly after all the effort it was now back to starting point, but  with tired bodies and legs and they just simple couldn’t keep it up…  The fans were in disbelief and the sadness, tears were starting to show up in some faces. The dream of accomplish an epic deed, two titles La Liga and The Champions League was now far way, from heaven to hell in one minute, once again the Champions League just couldn’t happen for them.

Real Madrid were obsess with La Decime even if they were trying to diminish the feeling everyone knew that being that close made it all more real and the obsession was at the highest, all Real Madrid fans had been dreaming for the past 12 years, yeap that’s the time between their last Champion League title. Most young people below let’s say 15 or 16 years had never celebrated a Champions League and for them it was  more like an urban story until that minute when Di Maria the best of the Match, hurtled into  Atletico’s penalty area and shoot but Thibaut Courtois palmed it to the back post where Gareth Bale was waiting to seal the deal with another almost impossible header to make. An at that moment the craziness in one side were over the top, La Decima was there in their hands it was going to be just about minutes to make it official.

Remember the summer transfer drama with Gareth Bale, Real Madrid paid millions, the most expensive player and this is how he made it all about football.

10325322_10150599381714953_6451211412689769533_n 10325648_10150599381679953_4254729268213616933_n 10291827_10150599381834953_5525087538260766162_n 10414567_10150599381994953_147426642817653393_n

Base on how tired Atletico’s players were and what this goal meant for them we all knew it was over… Atletico just couldn’t hold it, the effort was huge during the 90 minutes and they just couldn’t answer at all, it was sad to see that side of a final the other team.

But for all Madridistas, all Real Madrid fans this was the dream, the obsession becoming a reality. Marcelo with a very emotional goal for him made it 3-1 and then Cristiano who after wining the Ballon D’Or had an incredible season, but with some difficulties at the end of the season due to an injury that kept him away from the pitch for a few games, but he wasn’t going to miss this game, he play and forced a penalty that he also converted in the fourth for Real Madrid, La Decima was a reality, minutes later the final whistle sounded and then tears of happiness and completely excitement was the emotions for the new Champions!

10303299_10150599382129953_3565242936243850288_n  10401926_10150599382254953_7382186786425068852_n

And yes ladies he had to take his jersey off.. why not it was the Champions League final, what the heck… and I can guess some of you were more than happy, I have to give it to Ronaldo 😉 haha

10301295_10150599382349953_5251093962553215440_n

Finally after a long 12 years LA DECIMA was a reality. Watching Casillas lifting the cup was very interesting, after all the suffering and doubts he had at the beginning of the season,  as you probably remember he was the center of the other drama, he was benched by Mourinho in the previous season and it was a whole soup opera drama at it best, but this last season with Carlo Ancelotti everyone thought he was  going to be back to be the number one goalkeeper and then we learned that he was going to play only Copa Del Rey and the Champions League… Real Madrid lift both Cups and he still has that angel, that Santo level, it wasn’t his game during the final, he made an awful mistake that gave the first and only goal to Atletico, and later he made all Madridistas suffer with another close call type of mistake. But after all they wouldn’t have made it to the final if it wasn’t for his saves in that incredible road to Lisbon that they had.

Congrats to Real Madrid for wining the UEFA Champions League for the 10th time, La DECIMA!!

1001986_10150599588404953_4220753217808777899_n10310686_10150599588424953_6360085571740773094_n10402888_10150602587039953_6278873967126868443_n

Then it was time to offer the Cup to the goddess La Cibeles

Iphone 362

More on the celebration later. (Upcoming post)

Congrats to Atletico it was an amazing run for them, lots of effort and over all a great season, La Liga Champions, and Champions League finalist.

I leave you with this video, I think it kind of recap the feeling and atmosphere of the looker room! During Ancelotti press conference some members of the team led by Ramos and Marcelo interrupt Ancelotti to chant kiss their Coach, the Mister!

Thanks for ready I know it’s kind of out of time, but I like this recaps, and I relive the whole thing while doing it. hehe

Let me know your thought on Real Madrid’s 10th Champions League Title!! Fee free to leave a comment 🙂

The transfer Window was all drama till the end!

Hola Hola!!

tumblr_m9unjpnuWU1rfs974o1_500September is finally here and with that the Transfer drama in Football Soccer is over!! And this year it didn’t disappointed… Some last minutes surprises that some fans are still trying to understand and accept!

545208_10150449739554953_163621737_n

Let’s start with the big Drama of the Summer, this lasted three months, oook it was shorter than a Mexican novela, but it had all the ingredients of one lol… It was a love triangle story, with Real Madrid in love of Gareth Bale and he was totally corresponding that love and then we had the villain Tottenham Hotspur FC president who didn’t want to let him go, but in this case Love conquers all… or sort of… it was more wallet conquers all, €91 million to be kind of exact, that was the final chapter, after many negotiations and Bale going all revel with his former team, both teams reached an agreement on the money and as every novela or tale we have a happy ending…

1209356_10150450530459953_1116201199_n 1236541_10150450530299953_2089458501_n

At least for the moment because, we still have to see him play and the pressure for him have to be a big one, all that money is insane… and he is not even consider the best player as of now, the idea is that he will be…. and that’s why Real Madrid paid all that money, at least that’s the idea, but until he kind of shows and proves what he is capable of doing we will have just to trust lol

999455_10150450419994953_288931421_n

But he finally showed up in Madrid wearing white and the world went crazy…  I mean we have been waiting for this moment for long time…

The transfer window closed and the final hours were a bit crazy, with Bale signing for Real Madrid, but after paying all that money I guess the Whites feels the need to sell in order to be able to recover some of the investment and then we had the biggest surprise of the summer, I think this was bigger than Bale, let’s face it we knew he was going to be a Real’s player we just didn’t know when was going to happen, but the Surprise was Mesut Özil!!!!

1006065_10150447793789953_773938374_n 1233442_10150446725679953_1148245720_n

And I didn’t even see it coming. There were a lot of talks about clubs interesting in him even there was a moment when they thought he was going to be part of the Bale transfer deal but what we never saw coming or at least I didn’t was his transfer happening in the closing moments of the transfer window, and it was done in less than two days… That was crazy, just after we found out that Bale was finally a Real Madrid player, the rumors started and the next thing we know is that Arsenal reached to an agreement with Los Blancos to sign Özil, it was a matter of hours and for half of Bale’s price €45 millions…

1231509_10151817083419663_2134798804_n 1240600_10151804470334663_1129576977_n

On the other side if you are an Arsenal fan, those two days were the happiest in a long time lol… I think most of them if not all were heavily praying for some miracle, the fans were upset about the lack of actions from their club, they waited until the last-minute to bring any reinforcement to the team, but I guess the wait was worth it, they got one of the best players, he is talented and can move the ball and make some passes that many dream to make and fans dream to see, so I think they feel very happy right now!

1378206257_extras_noticia_foton_7_0

I still can believe it though, Özil is a great player, the pressure on him lately in Real Madrid was big, and with the great performance Isco is having and Bale’s possible arrival he was facing a lot of competition to avoid the bench so I guess it was a good deal for him too…

“I’m a player who needs the confidence [of the manager],” Ozil explained to dfb.tv, the official channel of the national team, on Tuesday. “At the weekend, I was certain that I would stay at Real Madrid, but afterwards I realised that I did not have the faith from the coach or the bosses. I am really looking forward to [joining Arsenal] because I have the faith of the coach. I had spoken to him at length on the telephone, he explained his plans and that he has faith in me – that is what I need as a player.” (Quote from the Guardian)

Real Madrid fans were unhappy they didn’t want him to go, and some of them made it loud and clear to Florentino Perez in Bale’s presentation, by chanting  “Özil is not for sale”, but it was inevitable by that time…

The other kind of last-minute  transfer although this one wasn’t that surprising was Kaka’s who got back to his old team, AC Milan, for him was kind of going back home, at least that’s what he said, he wasn’t having minutes in Real Madrid, he wasn’t receiving love from the fans either, during the last game he got a lot of whistles which means they weren’t happy with his performance, Milan has always expressed his desire to see him playing there again and now it’s a reality…

KAKA' BZL_9802

As you can see the final hours of the Transfer Market were more than interesting and surprising… let’s see how this will unfold, the good news is that we have front row tickets to see it all!!!

Thanks for reading, it was a long, never-ending post but it was a very, everything happen at once kind of weekend!!

Now it’s all set, ready and go for the UCL!!

Hello!!

1987581_w2

I’ve been kind of melting in this last summer heat weather… I know I will regret saying this later but I really need some fall and more chill weather, I’ll complaint  about it later when I am freezing lol

Anyways a lot to talk but as of now, let’s talk about the UEFA Champions League, because hello now we know the groups and it’s all set to go on September 17th and 18th… Those are the days, so mark them in your calendars, first game for everyone! The group stage look like a  lot of fun or not depending on what group your team is…

It all started with all the name of the teams in the little balls, which were taken from a bowl and we all were waiting to see who will face who in this first stage…

1987583_w2 1987582_w2 1987704_w2

And after all that ball picking and wondering we finally have the group stage ready! and it looks like this:

1987420_w2

There was a lot of debate about which group will be the hardest one, I am still thinking about it, a lot of people say that Arsenal in group F is the difficult one, but I am not sure…

I think Real Madrid group B is not as easy as some might think, base on previous seasons, last year eliminating Galatasary was not easy and it gave them a lot of trouble, and they have Juventus in the same group an Italian club that they haven’t been able to win comfortable in a while, so in my opinion it’s a difficult group.

I also think that Barcelonas’ group H it’s a difficult one Milan is a competitive club and has a champions league history, Ajax might not be at the same level as it was some years ago but still can complicate them too, and you have Celtic, in my opinion when almost all teams in your group might not be as good as you are but they have complicated you or can complicate you it means that anything can happen, so for that reason this two groups are difficult.

It’s not like Chelsea for example in group E in theory the teams in their group are not at the same level as they are or you don’t think they can not complicated them that much, you will expect Chelsea to move forward without much problem, that’s a kind of easy group to say something….

I think the normal group is when you have two teams that you know or expect them to advance to the next stage, that is not easy but a kind of normal competitiveness to have in first stage of a competition, when you have three teams or all in your group with possibilities in theory to advance then you might have a problem or what we call a hard or difficult group! In World Cup lingo that’s the “group of death”….

1987707_w2

What is for sure is that until the ball starts rolling we won’t know… and until it will stop rolling we won’t know either and everything and anything can happen, that’s why this is so excited!! La Orejona or the trophy with the big ears is waiting for the same or a new champion!!

I can wait! 🙂

1987575_w2

In the same event Franck Ribéry was awared with the 2012/13 UEFA Best Player in Europe, a big honor and big accomplishment for the French player currently in Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, so Congrats to him!!

So for now I leave you with the UEFA Champions League official theme song!! (Just to get us into the mood, not that we need it but is excited to listen to it!)

Thanks for reading, feel free to share what team you are supporting and how you feel about their group!

The number 1 drama…

Hello all!

Wonderfull

It’s Monday… and the only good thing about it, it’s that we had more games today!! lol

Yeah the weekend was not enough for most leagues, their schedules are adapted to be able to finish on time for World Cup 2014, Brazil!! That make me so Happy!!

Being so close to the World Cup, can impact some players in different ways, if some of them have very good season and are active with their teams, that secures them a spot in their national team, but for other this can change their possibilities to be in Brazil next summer…

brazil-worldcup-2014

That is why some dramas unfolding in La Liga are giving so much to talk, being specific the Iker Casillas case;

1185042_10152158810697306_1737431420_n

74856

Iker was benched today too in Real Madrid second game of the season, so far nothing has change for him, the captain, goalkeeper of Los Blancos and their number 1, ended up last season in the bench and he started this season the same way, it seem that the question of who will be the starter for Real Madrid is somehow uncertain, as far as what Carlo Ancelotti said, it’s still not defined but two games into the season it looks like Diego Lopez might has been the chosen one…

1175070_10150442614409953_801757419_n

There has been a lot of buzz about this, not only for the decision of who is the starter but also because this could impact his possibilities for the WC, and push him to make surprising decisions. The rumors about the possibility of Iker leaving Real Madrid have started, his situation is weird, he is the Captain of Spain National team, he is a symbol in his club, now some fans are a bit upset with him for many rumors about leaking information to the media, or being protected by the media, which I think it does not matter, I mean he has so many years in the club and I don’t think what is the point of him leaking information, I think the fact that he is dating a sport journalist made people think that everything she said is because she has some inside info, which I honestly don’t know, but again don’t see the point…. I think what hurt him the most was what happened with Jose Mourinho, the way he ended the season, but he is a symbol of the club nonetheless.

560515_10150445232919953_92910433_n

The situation with Iker is that if he doesn’t play all season or if he is not the starter in his team his participation in the World Cup could be in danger, it would be hard for Spain’s coach to take him when he is not playing many games…

Some rumors are wild, they have even said that Barcelona fans wouldn’t mind having him on their team, which is unreal to think about it, base on the rivalry but you never know, others reports talk about the options he might find in the English Premier League, according to many, wherever he goes he will be the starter goalkeeper which is amazing in some kind of ways .

1235422_10150446155444953_1119348601_n

In my humble opinion, I think competition is good, having two good goalkeeper challenging each other is good, but I think the team needs to have a defined starter, that gives confident to the back line, to the defense, and I think even if Iker started late his pre season, I think base on what he has done, and base on what I think he can still do with all respect to Diego Lopez, I think Iker should be the starter. But I’m not the coach, and let’s see what Carletto will decide. I think Iker deserves it, he has earned at least having the chance to prove that he still can be at the highest level, and if during the season, they realized that he is not at that level anymore, well you take decision but that’s just my opinion….

555557_10150446155734953_866125052_n

Anyways it is what it is… at least so far Real Madrid has 6 point out of 6 with two victories good start for Carlo Ancelotti and his team!

1185548_10150446768294953_1196538747_n

In another note Serie A, the Calcio in Italy started this weekend, now all leagues are up and running in Europe!

Bale case is closer to be over, he is just waiting to sign apparently and the amount of money that Real Madrid will pay is still insane! Not clear yet but is between 88 to 133 millions, I have gotten confused if those are euros or dollar, but whatever currency is still is insane….

1377366863_extras_noticia_foton_7_1

Thanks for reading, I’m planning to post more this week, I have comments about the tribute to Raul Blanco the forever 7 of Real Madrid, which I will post soon!

Any comments feel free, what do you think? Should Iker be the starter or he should look for another club… (Just to think about it make me feel so weird…)

Keep the ball rolling!!

Hello all!!

ball

Well the ball started to roll and we are already talking about the surprises! It’s serious business now, it’s early but even the first game can determinate the end of a season if you don’t believe me ask Real Madrid, their last season opening night was awful, and their first games didn’t got any better at the end they were out of the Championship run way before everyone expected, so this is serious business!!

The first game it’s kind of difficult for some clubs, it’s like breaking the awkwardness in a meeting or like going to a blind date, you really don’t know what will happen, if the other person  will like you and you don’t want to recover from a bad date you want to move forward after a nice first date… I am so into this dating analogies lol… Don’t know why??? **Worried** My unconscious might be sending me a message!! :/

Anyways this weekend was interesting, La Liga officially  kicked off their season and the two most famous and most possible contenders for the title played on Sunday with different results and evaluations, but one surprise in common, their benches gave to the media more to talk than some actions on the pitch!

iker-casillas-real-madrid_3

Let’s Start with Real Madrid, everyone was speculating if their legendary Captain Iker Casillas was going to be back to the starting lineup,  at first  everyone reports were that he was going to start and everyone thought that it was going to be Business as usual, but Carlo Ancelotti had a different plant and surprise everyone by leaving him on the bench, is still uncertain if is going to be like this and Diego Lopez will be the starting goalkeeper or if it is just some games situation, Lopez started training with the team from the beginning of the preseason, Iker joined their teammates almost 10 days later after playing the Confederation Cup with Spain, also last week he played with Spain against Ecuador, so someone can say he might have been tired or Ancelotti might have consider that the one more prepare was Diego Lopez, he didn’t clear that up, after being ask like three times by the media at the press conference after the game.

1173889_10150443038459953_543141191_n

Iker has been consider one of the symbols of Real Madrid, it has been his only club, and he kind of represent the dream of every little Spanish kid or any kid. He made it to the first team and became a star for his club and later for his country, but many agreed that he hasn’t had any competition lately, no one who could really challenge his position and sometimes that can lead to over-confidence not in his skills but on knowing that he was going to play all the time, all that change last season when Mourinho send benched him, we can made a whole new post about the rumors of why he did that, in my opinion was unfair, and out-of-place, but he was the coach and he could do it. What is true is that with the arrival of Diego Lopez to Real Madrid and his excellent performance  by the end of the last season, he definitely can challenge Iker to be at his best if he want to be the starter again, now they both have to compete for a spot in the starting eleven and they have to be at their best in every training and in every game… what is not clear yet is what Ancelotti will do… at some point he has to choose one of them to be the starter!

1003056_10150443569769953_827630681_n

In regards of the game, for Los Blancos it was a bittersweet opening day, the first half was tough, Real Betis played with no fear and they got themselves an early goal surprising everyone, Real Madrid struggle a lot in defense, Betis was even closer to increase the result but Real Madrid was lucky at some times, Benzema tied the game before half time. Again those 15 minutes can make a lot of difference, the second half was a different story, Los Blancos were more aggressive and moving better the ball, Marcelo played really good most of the time and at the last-minute he send a great pass to Isco who scored the wining goal,  the final result was 2-1 for Real Madrid, but many things to fix and reorganize for Ancelotti and Co.

2013-08-18_OTRO_BARCELONA-LEVANTE_01-Optimized_v1376921529

Barcelona on the other side had a dance party with poor Levante U.D, (Club), which I think had Stage fright or performance anxiety, because they were completely lost there, no options, no ways to react to the pouring of goals they were getting, the final result was 7-0, yes I feel bad for them but they play a bad game, not the best way to start, but at least they will have all season to recover hehe….  It took Barcelona less than three minutes to open the score board, and with a great Cesc Fabregas they were a demolition machine, they made beautiful passes and play great football, it was a real opening show, what a way to start the competition for their new coach Tata Martino.

176750382

The surprise was Neymar who started the game in the bench,  it is a surprise consider he is the most expensive investment the club made for this season, and I guess everyone was expecting to see the dynamic duo Naymar/Messi playing together, apparently he wasn’t in the starting lineup due to his latest health problem, although he was ok to play with Brazil before this game, I guess he is still in the adaptation process, he didn’t look happy with the decision we can assume base on his face expression (apparently I and some of the media can interpreter face expressions now lol ). When he  finally made his official debuted in La Liga in the 64th min, he looked so eager to show all his skills, we didn’t have the chance to see the dynamic duo for too long, Tata Martino decided to rest Messi just minutes after Neymar debuted…

1170735_10150443559964953_833222291_n

But overall was an interesting Opening day!! I enjoyed it, I guess all Real Madrid fans suffered more than they would have expected it, in some ways was a reminiscent of how the season ended, early goal conceded, a come back and a last-minute goal to get the three points, I hope it will get better for the well-being of their fans lol…  For Barcelona fans was all joy and great expectations!

Some other notes!

1146605_10150443559789953_576575697_n

  • Isco had a great debut with Real Madrid, scoring the wining goal that put him as the savior of the team and the day! The stadium was chanting his name, a good sign!

2013-08-18_BARCELONA-LEVANTE_02-Optimized_v1376851435

  • Cesc Fabregas made it clear that he wants to stay in Camp Barca, he played great and was one of the best in his team.

1175745_10150443038514953_2073435839_n

  • Sergio Ramos is no longer a platinum Blonde!!…. I don’t know what happened there, either he was having too much fun as a blonde and decided to get back to business or the blondes don’t have that much fan after all…. lol

I didn’t watch the rest of the games, but I don’t see any major surprises. It’s just the first game so we’ll see!

Let’s move to the EPL

I feel like I don’t need to say much about this, if you live in the USA I think the coverage of NBC was extensive and well done, I was happy to be able to see the game live on my phone lol!!

But we did have some surprises too…

Arse1_2647128b

Arsenal opening game was not the best they lost 0-3 vs Aston Villa and the feeling they left to the fans was not promising, so they have to work to do specially in their defense and they face another problem as many pointed out, Arsène Wenger hasn’t been able to strengthen the team with good additions, I think their fans are wondering if they will buy someone in this window market! This was kind of the big surprise of the weekend.

Robin-van-Persie-scores-his-teams-third-goal-2180029

Manchester United had a very special game, the first one after the Sir Alex Ferguson era, which was a very successful, he is truly a legend in the football world, so some were a bit nervous and uncertain about the future, all that have put some pressure on the team, and if you add the Wayne Rooney situation, that create a lot of expectations, but base on what we saw yesterday well I think so far is all under control, Robin van Persie is sensational, he is again a contender to end the season at the top in the goal department, the team needs some improvement but a victory 4-1 over Swansea City, can be called a good start.

sp-940-mourinho

Another game to watch was Chelsea vs  Hull City which marked the return of Jose Mourinho to the EPL, he received a lot of love from the fans and his team beat Hull 2-0 , it seems that everything went according to the plan!

So many news about the transfer market, but also about the reactions to this first games!!

**Eye Candy alert**

1186022_10150443559574953_1229492109_n

I really enjoy the games, but I have to say it, I think Zidane looks so good in that black suit!! C’mon that is pure handsomeness and he is not that young anymore, see boys we don’t need much just a nice suit or a nice tan lol… he is definitely like a good wine let’s just leave it there… lol!! Oook, he is  cute though…

Thanks for reading, I hope you did enjoy opening day, it was a weekend full of emotions, reunion ns andsurprises!! Let me know what you think, what surprised you the most and what team are you supporting this season!!

Take care! This just started and we couldn’t be happier!! hahaha
